SUMMARY:Zine-Making Workshop at the Women's Centre
DESCRIPTION:The Women and Environment Program spent 2017 expanding our minds with amazing discussions on important topics. Now it’s time to get crafty\, working with our hands to reflect on our journey. For the last Environmental Issues Discussion of the year\, join us for an environmental issues zine-making workshop! What is a zine you ask? It’s a small magazine\, published and produced by the author. We’ll be creating yours\, courtesy of the Women’s Centre Press (aka our photocopier.) Many zines are about music\, but others have been artwork\, short stories\, or worked as a form of activism to draw attention to important issues. \nLocal artist and zine-maker Alanna Schwartz will open the workshop with a short discussion\, sharing the way she uses zines to explore her own connection to the natural world. Then\, we’re going to get to work\, with the hope of creating our own mini zine-library to look back on some of what our Environmental Issues Discussion series has covered in 2017. From women and climate change\, to food security\, to energy empowerment\, there’s lots to reflect on. If these topics aren’t for you\, the possibilities are endless. Create a zine about feminism\, about your own experiences with the natural world\, or about anything else that comes to mind. \nJoin us for an evening of community and connections! Light refreshments will be provided. This is event is open to anyone who identifies as a woman. Space is limited\, RSVP to reserve your spot!
