SUMMARY:Agrihood Project Information Session
DESCRIPTION:What Is an Agrihood?\nAn agrihood is a housing development built around a farm; it often includes an educational component. Residents work together\, contributing their labour and skills to grow delicious\, nutritious food. This arrangement makes farm to table living a reality. \nOur Vision\nWe want to create an integrated community centered around a garden\, greenhouse\, farmer’s market & workshop space. We are currently considering a property that is situated in a small town within 1 hour’s drive of Calgary. There is already a large building onsite which will ideally function as a temporary residence\, workshop\, and business space. We plan to use sustainable and eco-friendly building methods to reduce our reliance on the grid as much as possible. \nOur vision is guided by Permaculture: a series of ethics\, principles\, and lessons from nature that that allow us to design in a practical\, environmentally friendly\, and aesthetically pleasing fashion. While the philosophy of Permaculture can be applied to any situation or problem\, it is most commonly used to design homes\, gardens\, and communities. \nOur Values\nOur values coincide with the 3 Ethics of Permaculture: \n• Earth Care – planting and building using environmentally responsible & sustainable methods\n• People Care – community\, connection\, valuing everyone’s gifts\n• Fair Share – only using what we need and putting any surplus back into the community & future generations \nWho are we?\nWe are a group of Southern Albertans seeking a more connected and rewarding life in a rural setting. We come from a variety of backgrounds and at present our ages range between 30-75. Our dreams bring us together and help us create a vision that includes self-sufficiency\, balance\, and a deeper commitment to stewardship of the land we are on. \nWho are you?\nYou are a person who cares about creating a happy healthy community and building a sustainable future for yourself and the generations to come. Perhaps you like the idea of building and living in an ecologically sustainable community. You may well be interested in permaculture design & gardening methods. Maybe you have an idea for an eco-friendly business or workshop that would fit in well at the Agrihood. Hopefully you share our passion and have some time\, skills\, and/or financial resources you are willing to contribute to help make this dream a reality. At the very least\, we hope that you will want to learn what we’re up to and help us spread the word about the Agrihood Project to your family\, friends\, and neighbours! \n
