In early 2013 Leaf Ninjas was contacted about doing some landscaping work for New Urban Development at the Dominion Bridge site in Ramsay. They wanted to update their landscaping while utilizing a locally based company… and we offered up the planting of a food forest as apposed to a more conventional landscaping approach. The dominion bride public food forest was then birthed through these conversations.
Now the garden is coming into it’s first full season of existence and we are hosting a planting-blitz volunteer day to help it reach it’s highest potential! On Saturday, May 24th, you are invited to join New Urban and Leaf Ninjas for a day of fun and learning in the garden. The days activities will include:
- Free lunch, snacks, and beverages throughout the day
- Hands-on experience working in a young food forest
- Education on design strategy and theory for food forestry in cold climates
- The planting of many understory herbs, vegetables, and ground cover,
- Tree and shrub health assessment, pruning, and care
- Construction and planting of a few raised “wicking beds” for annual vegetables
- A resource list that will help you in designing and planting your own food forest
- A chance to leave your mark in this public food forest and help create a community legacy that you can be proud of and re-visit at any time!

Registration is mandatory as there is a limited amount of spots available. We hope to see you out for this positive and productive community learning event 🙂
